The Tolmere is a series of concealed caves, carved from living stone, that serves as a sanctuary and resting place for the Wards of the South Fold on their vigilant patrols with a store of great arms and food. If ever was Tolmere discovered and
The furnishings within are simple but well made; strudy tables of old oak, glazed smooth cermanic bowls, mugs and water basins. The only distinction between the Captain's furnishings and the soliders under is the use of bronze instead of ceramincs for such items mentioned before.
Its entrance is such hidden that one ignorant my walk with a few feet of it and not notice it, but the entrance is also ever-guarded by sentinals within the tree's and foilage. None may enter Tolmere uninvited.
Humans know this region of woodlands below the River Luithal as the Whispering Woods, thicking it a wood of its own unlike the Elves who remember the Amar forest as a whole before the river came, and for the whispering sound of the wind catching in the many hollowed trees linning its border.
The soliders that stay within Tolmere
and guard the Southern Fold in a rotation of a long length of years, by
human standards at least, but accept it willing for they are elves who
profession is war with skills in spear, sword and bow instead of other
crafts.
Garb
‘They had spears in their hands
with broad bright heads, and across their backs they bore great bows, almost
of their own height, and great quivers of long green-feathered arrows.
All had swords at their sides and were clad in green and brown varied hues,
as if the better to walk unseen in the glades of the South Fold.
Green gauntlets covered their hands, and their faces were hooded and masked
with green, except their eyes, which were bright and keen.'
Such is the armor and garb of the Wardens that they appear to fade within the forest when they choose not to be seen.
The River Luithal
Now pass into the vast borders of
the Amar forest unmarked, and this includes those that travel by boats
of trade on the River Luithal that cuts through the forest, almost excusively
manned by humans.
Often these vessels are let to pass throuh unhindered, but not unwatched, unless they stop or bank within the forests realm.
Crossing the River
The rivers waters are to deep and
its currents to strong for one to wade or swim across without being wisked
far down stream.
A sentry always stands guard on a set point on both the north and south side of the river. If one wished to cross the sentry would whistle a series of note to its opposite, scouts would be sent east and west to confirm no ships or boats were on the river nearby, and the oppsite would fire an arrow across the river with a rope tied to its shaft.
Both ends would be fastened taught to the trunks of trees either side, stretching across the river. The person or people crossing then wrap there legs around the rope and hand upside down and pull themselves over the river.
Once the person or people have crossed, the rope is untied and draw back to the sentry, and they become silent and vigilant again, lost in the shadows of their camouflage, as if nothing had ever happend.
This proccess can be done as swiftly as a few minutes.
The fending of foes
Of all the enemies that plague the
South Fold, those of the greatest challenge is not in physical might, but
in moral right; the Daedhel, the Dark Elves as humans, or Wild Elves as
the Wardens know them of the same etheral mother, being edhel, Elves, though
estranged.
